NFL Week 3 Results Overshadowed by Favre Touchdown Pass

The most talked about NFL week 3 score was in Minnesota, mainly because of one pass thrown by Brett Favre. But although the Favre touchdown pass will be replayed over and over for a while, the rest of the NFL week 3 results had highlights and surprises of their own.

The NFC North got most of the attention in week 3, due to Favre’s touchdown pass to beat the 49ers, 27-24, and due to the Lions finally winning a football game. The Lions beat the Redskins and put coach Jim Zorn squarely on the chopping block – so if another team is going 0-16 this year, it won’t be the Lions.

Other NFL week 3 results featured a return to form for teams like the Patriots and Eagles, who took care of the Falcons and Chiefs. The Patriots erased the taste of their bad loss to the Jets, while the Eagles took care of an inferior opponent, got through one week with Michael Vick, and can start healing in their bye week.

The Steelers were on the wrong end of the biggest upset in week 3, as the Bengals overtook the defending champs, 23-20. The Steelers have played three last-second games in a row, and lost two of them, as their title defense is not starting that well.

Favre takes self-centered behavior to new extreme

There are limits as to how far NFL players can push their luck. And then there’s Brett Favre.

Maybe a handful of other elite all-stars could get away with this type of self-serving behavior. Most wouldn’t try. I can’t imagine fellow quarterbacks like Peyton Manning and Tom Brady being willing to put their own interests ahead of teammates who already have given so much time and energy preparing for the upcoming season.

Yet the “Gun for Hire” motto has become the Favre way — and the Vikings were willing to accept all the bullets that come with it.
