Michael Vick Plays with Eagles Thursday Night

August 26, 2009

MICHAELVICK

Michael Vick has looked sharp zipping uncontested passes to open receivers and racing past defenders who aren’t allowed to touch him in practice.

Now he’ll see what it’s like to face 11 guys going after him again.

Vick will make his Eagles debut in a preseason game in Philadelphia on Thursday night. The three-time Pro Bowl quarterback hasn’t played in an NFL game since Dec. 31, 2006, with the Atlanta Falcons—against the Eagles on the same field.

“I can only go off what I’ve seen in practice and it looks like he’s moving around pretty good,” Eagles coach Andy Reid said. “Realistically, it’s been two years. We’ll see how it works out. We’ll give him a couple shots in there and see what he can do.”

QB Michael Vick reinstated by NFL on conditional basis

Thanks to Dre for getting a FanShot up, but I thought this was probably deserving of its own front page post for now.  The NFL has officially reinstated former Atlanta Falcons QB Michael Vick.  According to the link at nfl.com:

Vick can immediately participate in preseason practices, workouts and meetings and can play in the final two preseason games . . .Once the season begins, Vick may participate in all team activities except games, and Goodell said he would consider Vick for full reinstatement by Week 6 (Oct. 18-19).

That’s certainly an interesting twist on the reinstatement.  I wonder why he’s only allowed to participate in the final two preseason games?

While the 49ers have said they will not sign Michael Vick, I know there are folks around here who want the 49ers to sign him.  I’m not one of those people, but I won’t begrudge them the space to discuss it.  I do have to say I am definitely curious where he ends up.  The Giants, Jets and Cowboys have all supposedly said they have no interest in signing Vick.  Do we begin the countdown to his signing by the Raiders?

So again, whether you’re for signing Vick, against signing him, or whatever, here’s your forum (thus no need for FanPosts on the topic).

Vick, Goodell met Wednesday in New Jersey

Michael Vick might soon discover just who’s interested in giving him a second chance

Two people familiar with the meeting confirmed the NFL commissioner, Vick, agent Joel Segal and two other members of the suspended quarterback’s team met Wednesday at a security firm in New Jersey. The two people requested anonymity because the league has not acknowledged the meeting.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello declined to confirm the meeting when contacted by The Associated Press on Thursday and insisted no decisions on Vick’s future have been made.

“This is a serious matter,” Aiello said in an e-mail. “We are engaging in a careful and thoughtful process.”

Roger Goodell told the AP on Tuesday, a day after Vick was released from federal custody, that he hoped to make a decision “in the near future.”

Goodell suspended Vick indefinitely in August 2007 after the former Atlanta Falcons quarterback admitted bankrolling the “Bad Newz Kennels” dogfighting operation. Goodell has said Vick must show remorse and signs that he has changed before he would consider reinstating him.
